It's been a while since I've really looked intently at this artist but there's never been a doubt about my admiration of his work, Yoshitaka Amano for those who don't see who I'm trying to draw here, has been the character and setting designer for most of the Final Fantasy games. He's also the creator of Vampire Hunter D. He's a prolific artist who started very young and has become a figure head in the Japanese art community as well as worldwide. His elegant brush strokes and use of patten remind me of the master Gustav Klimt and the inclusion of that style and attention to video game character makes him a very important figure to myself as a young artist and frankly as a lover of old jrpgs. P.S Brushes are dope.

Ron Swanson

Many moons past, I declared that would illustrate the Mighty edifice of Ron Swanson, portrayed by the very talented Nick Offerman Nick Offerman. My people, I give you, Swanson. Hopefully, I've done him justice, if not there's always next time...

Louie

Today's Drawing: Louie
...So I'm going to try to do a decent drawing everyday to show. If that wasn't already obvious. Today was, meh, but I still have some time to go before the day is done. Speed is important but quality more so. The drawing I did before this was...shatty. lol. Thats why its not in ink, but I felt that with my new marker set I should flex them out a little see what I'm working with. yada yada yada, moral of the story is do some warm up drawings before you work on something you want to work to finish, it helps.

Lob & Dawg

It's Lobo and his on and off again companion Dawg. I don't know much about Lobo but I've always thought he was a great character when I watched him in Justice League and Superman cartoons. Simon Bisley (A personal hero of mine) always portrayed him in particular in many memorably illustrations so I'm partially fond of this character because of how he's been envisioned up to this point. He's like Deadpool, but without the 4th wall and less of the needless violence and gore, which is a shame :)

Amy Winehouse

I may start doing a musician series for a bit, just to flex my muscles while deliberating on other projects I can do right now. Just like the Sonny Boy image this was done with a crow quill (mostly, details mainly). Amy Winehouse is one of my favorite singers, the connection she had with the blues was so solid and you could feel with her music so she's a choice artist of mine to capture. After scanning I spruced up the image a little because I thought the face was a little wonky but I think it worked out.

Sonny Boy

Ran out of ink for my Pentel brush pen, so I went old school and decided to use a crow quill today for my drawing. This is a drawing of Alex Miller, aka Sonny Boy Wiliamson II an old school blues cat.

Dare2Draw, December 19th, 2012

I won this 36 copic marker set at big city dare2draw event yesterday. It's a great environment that encourages young artists and encourage them to pursue art through some great prizes, competitions and opportunities to meet some professionals. Next one will be the 23rd of January at the Society of illustrators in Nyc. WWW.bigcitydare2draw.com

Happy Holidays

While trying to get to sleep last night, I felt the urge to do something. I haven't really made anything close to finished pieces for a while and I just didn't feel comfortable not doing something about it. So from this morning up until now I've been hacking away at this cartoon, and I have to say, it was really fun. I hope I get to do more updates soon, and although this one literally kept me from sleeping It was soo worth it. Happy Holidays, and Goodnight.

Muddy Waters

I'm a big fan of blues music even if I don't listen to it as much as true blues enthusiast would, but everyone starts somewhere. I've listened to alot of BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, I also love bands with blues infused into their music, Led Zeppelin,  Creedence Clearwater Revival etc. I discovered Muddy Waters not too long ago and while I may not know much about the south listening to his lyrics make me feel like I could call it home. Just during the music though.

Sketchbook Update

Been some time but I figured this page could use some sketches.

Old Animation

I dug out this Photoshop animation I did in college. It was actually pretty fun, but I had promised my teacher to turn into a flip book and that kinda sucked. The story was fun to me, it reminded me of an old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode with a character based on Jack Kirby and how his characters came to life. It was my favorite episode of the series.

CoCo, quick sketch

I've done plenty of head drawings, although most of them were studies rather than exaggerations. While practicing my caricaturing I made this Conan drawing with my Pentel Brush Pen and a sharpie.

One-Shot Page

This was a supposed to be a 3 pager, but I grew dissatisfied with the story I decided to scrap it but the intention was not only to explore storytelling but to find out how far I should push penciling.

Storyboards

Some new storyboards I worked on. It's random but was fun. Although a little detailed for a storyboard.

Storyboard#1: Brothers
Storyboard#2: Camera

Carnival

I created a 10 page word-less comic short to exercise my sequential abilities. A warm up for what I hope is a fruitful career in comics...yes I said it. I love it that much. These are just pencils.

Neil Armstrong: Final Entry

Neil Armstrong Dedication Part 3: Colors
I have finally finished with the color stage, and therefore closed another chapter. On to the next piece, and of course as always critiques are welcome. I have two versions of this image up, one with and without Neil Armstrong's portrait. I feel like their each have their own central charm. R.I.P Neil Armstrong.

Neil Armstrong 1930-2012

So I am late with this, but I've been working on it for a bit and I wanted to put it out sooner but things got in the way. It's not even done yet but I like to scan and record my pencil work so I thought it only necessary to put this up. This is my dedication to recently deceased Spaceman Neil Armstrong. One of the first men on the moon. A great accomplishment for this country and all of mankind. He will be missed in the hearts of all who aspire for more in their lives and will continue to live on as an inspiration.

Late Night Commute

My next post is an image I worked on in my sketchbook and I threw on some color and digitally produced a background. Some of you may think this as me cheating, but I found it to be a valuable a experience for me to fumble around with color. It was fun and my color experiments won't end here. Its also another train piece.

So I've been feeling down lately, I guess this is the life of an artist. But I figure the least I could do is upload some work that I've neglected to put up for a while and hope to generate some traffic. I realize that I can't solely do this because I hope to make a happy living out of it but that I have to be happy sharing my work and not expect a job to fall on my lap. Of course I'll still be looking and working because I care about what I do.
We've all been there before, but its never this bad...
